Kyler Rugg Car Accident Wayland, IA Obitaury:WACO High School Senior Identified as Crash Victim in Henry County on Friday
The WACO community is mourning the tragic loss of a high school senior following a single-vehicle crash in Henry County on Friday, February 13, 2026. The Iowa State Patrol has identified the victim as Kyler Rugg, a WACO High School senior.
According to the patrol’s report, the accident occurred in the 1700 block of Franklin Avenue south of Trenton. Rugg’s vehicle was southbound when it failed to negotiate a curve, causing a loss of control. The vehicle rolled multiple times. Rugg, the driver and sole occupant, was ejected. He was transported to University of Iowa Hospitals via Med Force air ambulance, where he later died. The report noted he was not wearing a seatbelt.

In response to the devastating news, WACO Community School District Superintendent Spencer Lueders shared a heartfelt message with the school community. “This loss is heartbreaking, and our thoughts and prayers are with Kyler’s family, friends, classmates, and all those who are grieving,” Lueders stated.
He emphasized the district’s support system, announcing that additional counseling services will be available across the district starting Monday. “Counselors and support personnel will be present to assist anyone who may need time, space, or someone to talk with,” he said, encouraging students and staff to utilize the resources.
The school community is now rallying around the Rugg family and one another in the wake of this profound tragedy.
