It is with profound sorrow that we mourn the sudden passing of Dr. Lynn Malec, MD, MSc, of Milwaukee, WI. A beloved physician, pioneering researcher, and dedicated educator, Dr. Malec died peacefully following a devastating health event, surrounded by love.

Since joining the Medical College of Wisconsin, Versiti, and Children’s Wisconsin in 2016, Dr. Malec became an indispensable leader. She served as Associate Professor, Senior Medical Director of the Versiti Medical Sciences Institute, and Medical Director of the Comprehensive Center for Bleeding Disorders. A master clinician-scientist, her groundbreaking work focused on hemophilia, rare bleeding disorders, and novel therapies. She was instrumental in bringing clinical gene therapy for hemophilia to Wisconsin, offering curative hope to countless patients.

Beyond her research, Dr. Malec was a passionate mentor. She created the innovative “Plasma Academy,” educating hematology fellows nationwide. Her dedication extended to Camp Klotty Pine, where she helped children with bleeding disorders experience joy and independence.

Colleagues and friends will forever remember her brilliant mind, contagious laugh, and unwavering commitment to patient-centered care. She built welcoming communities, famously through karaoke nights at international conferences, and approached everyone with curiosity and warmth.
