PHENIX CITY, Ala. — A Sunday night shooting in southern Phenix City has left a woman dead and a suspect in custody, marking Russell County’s first homicide of 2026.

The incident was first reported around 10:55 p.m. on February 15, in the 100 block of 17th Avenue South. Phenix City police, fire crews, and medics with CARE Ambulance rushed to the scene.

Russell County Coroner Arthur Sumbry Jr. identified the victim as 52-year-old Contina Robinson. She was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:49 p.m. from an apparent gunshot wound.

Criminal investigations officials immediately began a probe into the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Their work led to a swift arrest. Police identified the suspect as 51-year-old Willie James Davis. He was taken into custody and booked into the Russell County Jail at 4:43 a.m. on Monday, February 16.

Davis faces a murder charge and is currently being held without bond. The victim, Contina Robinson, will be transported to the Alabama Department of Forensic Science in Montgomery for an official autopsy.

The Phenix City Police Department confirms the investigation into this fatal shooting remains active and ongoing.
