Emily McIntosh Obituary,Brain Cancer Canada Engagement Ambassador Has Passed Away

We are deeply saddened to share that Emily McIntosh, PhD, passed away on February 11, 2026. A brilliant biomechanist, Brain Cancer Canada Engagement Ambassador, devoted patient advocate, and extraordinary brain cancer survivor and thriver, Emily’s life was a testament to courage, compassion, and purpose.

Emily Isabel McIntosh, PhD, peacefully passed away at her home in Martintown on February 11, 2026, surrounded by loved ones and her faithful corgi, Monty. Her life, though shortened by a nine-year battle with brain cancer, was marked by resilience, kindness, and a relentless drive to make a difference.

Born on December 29, 1989, Emily demonstrated early on her fierce determination to forge her own path. An avid student and athlete, she excelled in minor hockey and was a proud member of the MacLeod Fiddlers. After graduating from Char-Lan DHS, she pursued higher education at the University of Guelph, earning degrees in Human Kinetics and Human Health and Nutritional Sciences. Her dedication culminated in a PhD awarded in 2020, a testament to her perseverance and intellect.

Guelph became Emily’s second home, where she built lasting connections through community involvement, amateur sports, and her participation in the local pipe band. Professionally, she served as a clinical research scientist at Intellijoint Surgical, contributing to innovative healthcare solutions.

Throughout her life, Emily exhibited remarkable courage and grace, especially during her illness. Her advocacy for brain cancer patients and their families touched many. She served as an ambassador for Brain Cancer Canada and participated as a patient partner in several influential committees, including Clinical Trials Ontario and the Ontario Institute of Cancer Research. Her efforts earned her the 2024 Douglas MacRae Award of Courage, recognizing her inspiring impact.

Emily’s legacy extends beyond her professional achievements. She was dearly loved by her family—her mother Betty, siblings Katie, Megan, and Ian, and her nieces and nephews—as well as her friends and community. Her kindness, empathy, and quiet strength left an indelible mark on everyone she encountered.

A memorial service and visitation will be held at Wilson Funeral Home in Cornwall, with a funeral mass at St. Andrew’s West Catholic Parish. In lieu of flowers, her family welcomes donations to Brain Cancer Canada, honoring her lifelong commitment to advocacy and hope. Service Details
