Father Gary Schexnayder Louisiana Obituary, Death:Acadiana Mourns Father Gary Schexnayder

Acadiana’s beloved Father Gary Schexnayder entered eternal life last evening at the age of 83. His passing leaves a profound void across the Diocese of Lafayette, where he was a beacon of joy and service for decades.

To have known Father Gary was to have experienced genuine Christian joy. He will be fondly remembered for his ever-present warm smile, his signature smiley-face T-shirts, and, above all, for his unwavering spirit of service. His wonderful personality was matched only by his deep reverence and respect for all people.

Father Gary’s ministry touched countless lives, most notably through his dedicated service as chaplain for the Catholic Committee on Scouting in the Diocese of Lafayette. For many years, he faithfully brought the sacraments to Scout camps and events, most especially presiding over the annual Bishop’s Awards Mass for Adult Scouters, nurturing faith in the hearts of the young and young at heart.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May this faithful servant, who so generously devoted his life to God and His people, now receive the rich reward promised. While his smile is missed, the light of his kindness shines on in all who were blessed to know him.
