Ronnie Andrews, Robersonville,NC Obituary, Death,Truck Driver Killed in Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel Crash
CAPE CHARLES, Va. — A Perdue Farms tractor-trailer crashed through guardrails on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel Sunday morning, plunging into the water and killing its driver.
The single-vehicle wreck occurred around 6:30 a.m. near the North Channel Bridge on the southbound span. The truck went over the west side of the structure. Authorities later identified the driver as 61-year-old Ronnie Andrews of Robersonville, North Carolina. His body, along with the vehicle and trailer, was recovered by Sunday evening.
In a statement, Perdue Farms confirmed the death. “We are heartbroken,” the company said, extending condolences to his family and friends. “He had been a valued member of our team, and his loss will be deeply felt.” The company pledged full cooperation with the investigation.

The crash caused significant damage to guardrails and curbing, requiring emergency repairs and closing one southbound lane for much of the day. Aerial footage showed the trailer ruptured, with its contents scattered in the water.
This incident marks at least the 18th over-the-side crash in the bridge-tunnel’s history. It is the second such fatal tragedy in recent years, following a June 2023 crash that claimed the life of another tractor-trailer driver. The cause of Sunday’s wreck remains under investigation.
